The Video Game Sector Captivates Generation Z as a Career Path for the Future

This Thursday marks International Workers’ Day, a date that pays tribute to those who, with their talent and effort, promote economic and social development. In the video game industry, the role of thousands of professionals has been key to consolidating a constantly growing market, which advances at the pace of technological innovation and generates new job opportunities every year. From G2A.COM, a global marketplace for digital entertainment, they highlight the positive evolution of employment in this sector, which is particularly appealing to younger generations.
The U.S. video game industry supports over 143,000 jobs directly and indirectly, according to the Entertainment Software Association. Globally, the industry employs millions, with countries like Japan, South Korea, and China playing pivotal roles in development and innovation. The rise of esports has further fueled interest, with tournaments attracting millions of viewers and offering lucrative career opportunities.
Artificial intelligence and new forms of employment
Artificial intelligence is transforming the industry, with 54% of developers globally using AI tools to enhance efficiency and creativity. The Unity 2025 Video Game Report reveals that 79% of developers view AI positively for its ability to reduce costs and improve workflows. Additionally, 55% of developers are calling for more advanced tools to optimize processes and deliver higher-quality products.
In this environment of transformation, G2A.COM has published the results of its internal job satisfaction survey, which reflect the positive impact of an organizational culture based on flexibility, collaboration, and technological innovation. With a record 94% of its workforce, the marketplace has achieved the highest average satisfaction score since 2019: 4.1 out of 5.
Collaboration between teams (4.6) and support received from leaders (4.3) were the most valued aspects, along with the high level of trust and commitment among colleagues. Likewise, the remote and hybrid work model is already a consolidated reality in the company, where 70% of employees prefer to work from home and 29% do so in a mixed way. The valuation of profits has also improved significantly, going from 3.6 to 4.1 points.
“The data confirms that more and more people identify with the company’s purpose. For us this is fundamental because we want to build an environment in which talent can develop freely, through a clear vision and shared values. Our commitment to flexible working models and a strong digital culture allows us to attract people who value innovation and the impact of their work in a global ecosystem in equal measure,” says Zuza Głębocka, Head of People and Culture at G2A.COM
On the other hand, although the outlook is encouraging, the industry continues to face significant challenges such as job stability, wage differentials, and improved business culture in certain regions. At the same time, new dynamics are being imposed, such as hybrid or remote work – already adopted by 68% of companies and a consolidated reality at G2A.COM, where 70% of employees prefer to work from home and 29% do so in a mixed way – the development of multiplayer experiences (in which 58% of studios are currently working), the consolidation of esports, or the focus on the continuity of existing projects to maximize their value and reduce financial risks.
